I’m reading Hua Hsu’s memoir, “Stay True, and it’s wonderful- if you haven’t read it, you might like it - 90s and mix tapes and college philosophy and Berkeley!
I remember waaay back seeing the joke “a data scientist is a data analyst who lives in San Francisco” & seeing basic things like regression & A/B testing get all kinds of fancy names. Then thinking back to a paper by Clifford Geertz (I think, could be misremembering) about how professions use jargon to elevate routine tasks to being seemingly genius things only they can do.
Very much enjoying the new albums from Slowdive & Lloyd Cole. Also Kleo on Netflix & Slow Horses on Apple+
